Hello, you’re listening to Marasa. This is our fifth tape, featuring work by artist Rosa-Johan Uddoh.
She is an interdisciplinary artist working towards what she calls maximum self-esteem.
She’s inspired by black feminist practice and writing.

This tape will feature 2 sound pieces created by Rosa, ‘On Opacity, Part 1& 2’ (2017) and ‘Black
Poirot’ (2019).
With the visual field all but removed, her audio work moves through various meditations on what
sound means for regimes of visibility. Like radio, these sound pieces evade the logic of the written or
the visual and thus these axes of domination.
The first piece, On Opacity, stages a conversation. It asks what it is to be fully known through the
types of information that can be strategically concealed or communicated through sound.
Black Poirot, is what the artist calls “a 20 minute ride on the Orientalised- Other Express.
investigating a crime no one can remember and an internalized struggle with latent respectability
politics. It also features a special appearance from Edouard Glissant in the role that could have defined
him.” Blurring the boundaries between radio play, sound collage and critical essay, communicating
through theory and affect, Black Poirot leverages tension and leaves us wondering… Who dunnit?

Finally returning to my Pu$$y Nightmare space after a little break, and happy to share the show with Jasmin: half Dutch – half Argentinian DJ based in Amsterdam. She hosts her own show on Red Light Radio, Petting Dogs, and another show on Utrecht’s Stranded FM. Besides djing she works within club culture and writes about music for various platforms, using her Gender Studies background as a framework.

Here are the words she shared with us
“As it’s the end of the year I’ve been thinking about my favourite releases of the past year; Loraine James on Hyperdub, Yu Su and upsammy’s album, rRoxymore, Shanti Celeste, Laurel Halo’s DJ Kicks, everything by DJ Haram… This was a good year for sick tunes! A lot of them are in here, all made by amazing producers and some (older) favourites added in between.”

This mix is a selection of some tracks published over the last 8 years running Domestica Records and it’s a good way to have an approximate idea about the essence of the label. Most of these songs were never published at that time so they were demos that we restored as carefully as possible, and the rest of the tracks were published only on tape and in very limited distribution. That’s basically what we love to do here and that’s our identity. But this mixtape it’s not only a brief look back at the work we have done; you will find as well two unreleased tracks that we are planning to publish the next year. So, basically, I took this mixtape as a celebration, not only for the work done until now but also for all the things still to come.

“It had been a strange morning…. it was normal, we had spent more than 10 days without separating not even a minute, I had not even been able to open the mails or look at my mobile …
It was like a vacation in my own house.
My birthday was approaching and many Lithuanians would come, some Spaniards too.
I was so nervous that I preferred to say goodbye to her,
I thought it was going to be a lot of people and I would have to dedicate a lot of time to them so that I couldn’t dedicate a lot of time to her..
So I took her to the station, we were a little disoriented, we didn’t even buy a ticket, we just got onto the first ubahn… on the way to Ostkreuz the controllers checked the train, she asked me – what do we do now?
But when I saw their faces I understood that it was impossible to convince them and there wasn’t much to do, and I was not in the mood to improvise something original.
We were fined 60eurs each, a bit dramatic ending.
We wasted a lot of time with the controllers who wanted to take me to the police station because I had no documents on me…
When we managed to get to Oskreuz , we realised that we had made a mistake… the right station was Südkreuz in the opposite direction.
We looked at each other with the face of being very pissed at ourselves. We tried to run to Südkreuz knowing that we would not arrive and that other controllers could stop us.
We arrived at Südkreuz, but the train had already left.
So she had to buy another ticket….
I had to work and she had to wait for the next train.
When I finished to work and got back home and she had left already—, there was no way back and now I was regretting it.
Sometimes I practice selft-sabotage, I am a professional of self-boycott in every aspect…
She didn’t even understand why we had decided to separate one day from my birthday, neither did I.
The Lithuanians arrived home, less than I expected and it was a very harmonious team, we went down to the keller and I made this set for Geográficamente perto, and this is the improvised radio show, because improvising is the only thing i can do, even if it didnt work earlier with controllers on the train, but with music is always easier.
The Lithuanians were in the keller… everything was perfect and quite relaxed, I was not nervous and that made me think more of how foolish I had been to let her go.
This is all the soundtrack that came to my head from all those beautiful days, in radio show format, my favorite format.
A cabaret of different pieces about those days, something I do not think it can bother anyone.
It won’t throw you off your homework whatever it is, it doesn’t have enough intensity to distract you from what you are doing, and this is exactly my concept of radio show.
But it’s triky, if you stop doing your stuff and pay all your attention to it you’ll find a very different format of the same result.
I hope you enjoy, here’s a piece of me.”

1731, Fribourg, a city in Switzerland near by the mountains. A presumed witch is burned on a stake. Her name is Catherine Repond who used to be called « Catillon ». Before that, she was subjected to torture to obtain confessions to condemn her. She was first hung by the arms with a rope and weights of 25 and 50 kilos were attached to the legs. Catillon was the last victim of popular superstitions. Witchcraft trials were a good way to kill someone who did not fit; whatever the reason. Patriarchy used witches to justify inexplicable local phenomena and mostly to put their hands on social domination and kill women who knew to much. This is my musical tribute to the last witch of Fribourg.

Faitiche’s Jan Jelinek invites Tim Tetzner for this month’s broadcast, him providing with a sound collage entitled “Earth covers Earth, Wind and Fire”, a sound meditation dedicated to humankind’s most ambiguous fantasy, Earth. But what at the time extended our understanding of the planet was soon to be challenged by theoretical physics: science now turned Earth from an alluring blue marble in space into an abstract mathematical delusion driven by string theory and overshadowed by an unresolved black-hole information paradox.
Dedicated to the soulful voice of Dinah Washington, inspired by Low Res’ Mistaken Alien Interpretations Of Earth Music and deluded by Michael Talbot’s The Holographic Universe.
