Donnie Ka invites, yet again, another one of his alter egos, MIT99, to the show. This late 90’s archivist makes a collage of funky breaks juiced from (now old) video games to create a soundtrack to an imaginary early edition of ESPN’s X-Games event. Tweaked sounds of alternative subgenres from that era like D’n’B and Big Beat blended together under a Boom-Bap-ish production, and an ambient sensibility almost triggering some cyberscape flashbacks, are perfect sonic counterparts to the bold aesthetic of that time, which in retrospect can definitely be lauded as a true momentum of pure, unhinged fun. Radical tricks, style and showmanship, and traces of a much welcomed punk ethos are still visible through a beautiful distorted VHS filter in videos like the 411VM series, Lord Voelker, or homemade recordings of Youth Only Zone.
